Job Description

The Role: As a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Step-Down Unit, you will provide specialized care to patients transitioning from intensive care to general medical-surgical units. You will monitor and manage patients with moderate acuity levels, ensuring their recovery and stability while delivering high-quality, compassionate nursing care in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and manage symptoms to detect and respond to clinical changes promptly.

  • Administer medications, treatments, and interventions in accordance with established care plans and physician orders.

  • Care for patients with cardiac monitors, oxygen therapy, IV drips, and other advanced medical equipment.

  • Educate patients and families about ongoing care needs, medications, and discharge planning to support recovery.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient assessments, care plans, interventions, and outcomes.

  • Adhere to infection control and patient safety protocols, maintaining a clean and organized environment.

 

Requirements:

  • Current, unrestricted RN license in your province of practice.

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or equivalent.

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in step-down, telemetry, or critical care settings.

  • Certification in ACLS and BLS is required; PALS or additional critical care certifications are an asset.

  • Proficiency in managing patients requiring advanced monitoring and moderate care needs.

  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in fast-paced situations.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.

  • Fluent in English and French.
