Job Description

The Role: As a Medical Laboratory Assistant/Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist (MLA/CLXT) in the Lab Services department, you will be responsible for supporting patient care by performing both laboratory specimen collection and diagnostic imaging procedures. Your role will ensure the accurate processing of specimens and timely diagnostic information to support healthcare teams in making informed treatment decisions.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Collect and prepare biological specimens (e.g., blood, urine) for laboratory analysis, including performing phlebotomy and ensuring proper labeling and documentation.

  • Assist laboratory technologists with routine lab tests and ensure correct handling, processing, and storage of specimens.

  • Conduct diagnostic imaging procedures (e.g., X-rays) in accordance with radiation safety protocols, ensuring correct positioning and image quality.

  • Operate and maintain laboratory and radiology equipment, ensuring they are properly calibrated and functioning.

  • Document patient information, procedures, and results accurately, adhering to confidentiality and safety protocols.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure timely and accurate diagnostic results to guide patient treatment.

  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and compliance with safety and infection control standards in the lab and imaging areas.

 

Requirements:

  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) and/or Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist (CLXT) from an accredited program.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory and/or diagnostic imaging setting.

  • Proficiency in specimen collection, phlebotomy, and diagnostic imaging techniques.

  • Knowledge of laboratory safety, quality control, infection control, and radiation safety protocols.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative healthcare team.
