Overview
The Snowplow Operator is responsible for clearing snow and ice from roadways, parking lots, walkways, and facility grounds to ensure safe access during winter weather conditions. This role requires strong equipment-operation skills, awareness of safety protocols, and the ability to respond quickly during snow events, often outside of regular work hours.
Key ResponsibilitiesSnow & Ice Removal
Operate snowplow trucks, loaders, skid steers, or sidewalk equipment
Plow designated routes according to site or municipal priorities
Apply salt, sand, or de-icing materials evenly and safely
Shovel or clear walkways when required
Safety & Compliance
Follow safe driving procedures during severe weather
Avoid damage to vehicles, curbs, buildings, landscaping, and infrastructure
Comply with local regulations regarding snow placement and road safety
Follow company or municipal emergency-response protocols
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
Conduct pre-shift inspections
Maintain plow blades, hydraulics, and salt spreaders
Report equipment issues immediately to maintenance or supervisors
Keep the truck/vehicle stocked with supplies (ice melt, fuel, PPE)
Documentation & Communication
Log hours, routes completed, salt usage, and incident reports
Communicate with dispatch about progress and road conditions
Respond to call-ins, storm alerts, and schedule changes
Requirements
Valid driver's license; CDL preferred for larger plow trucks
Experience operating snow removal equipment (training sometimes provided)
Ability to work nights, early mornings, weekends, and emergency call-outs
Tolerance for cold, wet, and physically demanding conditions
