Job Summary

The Dishwasher / Steward is responsible for washing and sanitizing dishes, glassware, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment, as well as maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the dish area and kitchen. This position helps support the kitchen team by ensuring a constant supply of clean items and a safe, sanitary work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Wash and sanitize dishes, glassware, silverware, trays, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils using dishwashing machine and/or by hand.
• Ensure all items are properly cleaned, sanitized, and returned to the appropriate storage areas.
• Maintain the dishwashing area clean, organized, and free of clutter, following sanitation and safety standards.
• Empty trash and recycling containers in the dish area and kitchen and transport waste to designated disposal areas.
• Sweep and mop kitchen and dish room floors regularly and immediately clean up spills.
• Clean and sanitize work tables, sinks, walls, and equipment as assigned.
• Assist with receiving, unpacking, and storing deliveries (food, supplies, disposables) in proper storage areas.
• Follow proper food safety and sanitation procedures, including correct use of chemicals and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Check dishwashing machines for proper operation; report any issues or malfunctions to the supervisor.
• Assist cooks and other kitchen staff with basic prep or tasks when needed (e.g., lining trays, organizing items).
• Follow opening and closing procedures for the dish room and kitchen support areas.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor, chef, or manager.
