Job Overview:
We are seeking a motivated, experienced Fire Sprinkler Designer to join our design / engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing fire sprinkler system designs, producing detailed drawings and hydraulic calculations, coordinating with clients and project teams, and ensuring compliance with NFPA standards, building codes, and local authority requirements.
Though remote, you will collaborate closely with our field engineering, project management, and construction teams. The ideal candidate is self-driven, adept at remote collaboration, technically strong in fire protection design, and comfortable interfacing with multiple stakeholders (architects, engineers, authorities having jurisdiction, internal teams).
Key Responsibilities:
Develop sprinkler system designs (wet, dry, preaction, deluge, etc.) based on project requirements, codes, and hydraulic demands
Perform hydraulic calculations and load analyses using appropriate software (e.g. hydraulic modeling tools)
Produce detailed construction drawings, isometric piping layouts, riser diagrams, detailed annotations, parts schedules, and BOMs
Create and verify pipe sizing, fitting selection, head spacing, zone layouts, and branch lines
Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, MEP teams, and clients to integrate sprinkler layouts into architectural and structural plans
Review project specifications, code requirements, and contract documents to ensure adherence
Conduct plan reviews, design revisions, and clash detection (coordinate with other trades)
Provide technical support during construction (requests for information (RFIs), field clarifications, redlines, markups)
Maintain version control, record as-built coordination, and incorporate field changes into final drawings
Stay current on fire protection standards, codes, and best practices
Occasionally participate in design reviews, technical audits, peer reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives
Report progress, challenges, and status updates to design manager or engineering lead
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline — or equivalent experience
3–5 years of experience in fire sprinkler/fire protection system design or a comparable role
Proficiency with industry-standard fire protection design and hydraulic calculation software (e.g., AutoSPRINK, HydraCAD, Revit MEP, CADD, etc.)
Strong working knowledge of local building and fire codes
Experience preparing permit/AHJ submittal packages
Ability to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, and structural drawings and integrate sprinkler systems accordingly
High attention to detail and strong commitment to design accuracy
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work remotely and coordinate with cross-functional teams
Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines
Proficiency in CAD drafting; experience with BIM tools like Revit MEP is highly desirable
Flexible and adaptable, able to respond to field feedback and iterate designs as needed
Preferred / Bonus:
Professional Engineer (PE) license or NICET certification in fire protection
Experience with Revit collaboration and BIM coordination workflows
Background in large commercial, industrial, or healthcare fire sprinkler projects
Familiarity with other fire suppression systems (e.g., foam, gaseous, deluge)
Experience with project management tools, BIM clash detection, or coordination platforms
Experience working with remote or distributed teams
Note: An NBI or police clearance will be required upon acceptance of the job offer.
