Job Description

The Role: As a Physical Therapist in the Emergency Room (ER), you will assess and provide immediate therapeutic interventions for patients experiencing acute injuries or mobility impairments. Working in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment, your role focuses on early mobilization, pain management, and discharge planning to ensure patients' safe and efficient transitions to appropriate levels of care.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform rapid assessments of patients presenting with acute injuries, trauma, or mobility challenges in the ER.

  • Develop and implement targeted therapeutic interventions to address pain, mobility, and functional impairments.

  • Educate patients and caregivers on injury prevention, rehabilitation exercises, and the use of assistive devices.

  • Collaborate closely with ER physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to determine safe discharge plans or recommendations for further care.

  • Contribute to patient triage and care prioritization by identifying those requiring immediate physical therapy support.

  • Maintain thorough documentation of assessments, interventions, and recommendations in compliance with ER protocols and standards.

 

Requirements:

  • Licensed Physical Therapist with current registration in your province or territory.

  • Experience in acute care, trauma, or emergency settings is preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of acute injury management, early mobilization techniques, and rehabilitative care.

  • Exceptional critical-thinking skills and the ability to make quick decisions in high-pressure situations.

  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate within a dynamic ER environment.
