The Role: As a Physical Therapist in the Emergency Room (ER), you will assess and provide immediate therapeutic interventions for patients experiencing acute injuries or mobility impairments. Working in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment, your role focuses on early mobilization, pain management, and discharge planning to ensure patients' safe and efficient transitions to appropriate levels of care.
Responsibilities:
Perform rapid assessments of patients presenting with acute injuries, trauma, or mobility challenges in the ER.
Develop and implement targeted therapeutic interventions to address pain, mobility, and functional impairments.
Educate patients and caregivers on injury prevention, rehabilitation exercises, and the use of assistive devices.
Collaborate closely with ER physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to determine safe discharge plans or recommendations for further care.
Contribute to patient triage and care prioritization by identifying those requiring immediate physical therapy support.
Maintain thorough documentation of assessments, interventions, and recommendations in compliance with ER protocols and standards.
Requirements:
Licensed Physical Therapist with current registration in your province or territory.
Experience in acute care, trauma, or emergency settings is preferred.
Strong knowledge of acute injury management, early mobilization techniques, and rehabilitative care.
Exceptional critical-thinking skills and the ability to make quick decisions in high-pressure situations.
Effective communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate within a dynamic ER environment.
