The Role: As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) in the Mental Health/Substance Use Unit, you will provide compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges. You’ll collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, guide nursing staff, and manage resources effectively to support patient recovery and maintain smooth unit operations.
Responsibilities:
Conduct mental health assessments and monitor patient well-being, including adherence to treatment plans.
Administer psychiatric medications and manage treatment regimens as part of individualized care plans.
Support patients with substance use concerns by facilitating withdrawal management and harm reduction strategies.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure holistic and evidence-based care.
Educate patients and families on mental health conditions, coping strategies, substance use recovery, and available resources.
Advocate for patients, addressing ethical concerns while promoting dignity and safety.
Maintain thorough and accurate documentation in patient medical records.
Requirements:
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Psychiatric Nursing.
Active Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) license in your province.
Minimum of 2 years of mental health nursing experience (substance use experience is an asset).
BLS certification.
Certification or experience in addiction counseling or harm reduction practices is an asset.
Strong communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Experience in dynamic, high-demand environments, with excellent prioritization skills.
