The Role: As a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Surgical Extended Daycare Unit, you will provide specialized care to patients undergoing surgical procedures requiring extended monitoring and recovery. You will support patients through pre-operative preparation, intra-operative assistance, and extended post-operative care, ensuring a safe and comprehensive recovery process.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and educate patients for surgical procedures, including pre-operative assessments and positioning.
Monitor and document patient vital signs, anesthesia effects, and post-operative recovery during extended care periods.
Provide extended post-operative care, including managing pain, monitoring for complications, and ensuring patient stability.
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
Educate patients and their families on post-surgical care, medications, and recovery plans prior to discharge.
Maintain adherence to infection control standards and ensure a sterile environment throughout the care process.
Support patient transitions to discharge or inpatient care as required, ensuring all clinical documentation is accurate.
Requirements:
Current, unrestricted RN license in your province.
Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in Canada, preferably in a surgical or extended care setting.
ACLS and BLS Certifications.
Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, extended recovery protocols, and patient education techniques.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
Ability to manage multiple patients in a fast-paced environment while providing compassionate care.
